An Announcement

After the fiasco that was 2011, we decided to aim for some of our goals regardless of what 2012 might decide to throw at us. With my health improving this seems to be a viable option, and we certainly have a packed year ahead – my son’s 16th birthday in June and the Discworld Convention in August.

We also agreed that this would be the year that we finally marry. We held it off last year on account of my precarious health and then my mother’s cancer, and in 2010 my Nan’s health took a nose-dive and eventually we lost her. I lived 2010 under a cloud, concerned about her, and so I could never have booked our wedding and been excited about it.

This afternoon we bit the bullet, looked up some numbers and picked up the telephone. I spoke to a very, very nice lady who found us a suitable late afternoon on Monday, May 14th!

We are having a small and low-key ceremony here:

This is the inside of Braintree Registry Office, which to me looks rather similar to how the Round Table Room looks in my imagination – therefore quite fitting, given my fascination with Medieval history and legend. Isn’t it beautiful?

We settled on the ring months ago and I’ve already chosen my gown. Today I’ve been in touch with my bridesmaid to ask her to start dress hunting!

I’m putting this here because I wanted to come back and read about The Day We Booked The Wedding in years to come. This is the one that I want to remember every detail of, from the booking to the planning to the Big Day. Over the last four years Tribble has helped me to generate many treasured memories, and in a few months’ time we shall be creating our most beautiful memory yet – pledging our lives together, as our hearts already are.

On Thursday afternoon we have an appointment to give notice to marry, and so we are taking the opportunity to also pop into the jeweller’s and try on/order this beautiful ring.

In sickness and in health. Til zombie apocalypse do us part. Unless one of us gets bitten by a certain sparkly Vampire, because the other will head for the hills without looking back!

Congratulations! Good on you for finally doing this and making the appointment! :D

    • Thanks Charlie. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that The Mother wanted to make certain that I really know it’s right this time and that it’s the right bonding!

If that’s the case, then I’m grateful to be able to say that Tribble and I have gone through all these trials, have remained together for four years regardless and are still in love :)

  5. Congrats!!! Also, can you Americanize this for me? ;-)

“On Thursday afternoon we have an appointment to give notice to marry…”

    • Here in England you *can* simply buy a marriage license and marry within 24 hours notice or whatever, but the cheapest option is to provisionally book your chosen venue, then confirm it at an appointment in which you show proof of identity and address and pay a small fee. Six weeks before the date of marriage they post the “Banns” once a week in the registry office (this happens for church weddings too, as you still need to see a registrar to give notice of intention to marry).

Today we’ve pulled the living room apart looking for those much-needed documents! We eventually found them, and at least the “treasure hunt” got me out of bed and using muscles that have lain dormant for too long! :)

  6. Congrats! I mean that with all my heart, Good luck in all things.

    • Thank you honey. I strongly believe that, after two failed marriages, the Goddess decided to put me through the wringer to make certain that this one will last, and I thank her for it :D

  7. Congratulations! May 2012 be filled with many blessings!
