The TARDIS Is A Rockin’ – Needlework Days Part Two

Needlework Days

In my continued participation in Needlework Days I have finished one project (thank you eBay for having such fab sellers!) and unearthed a few that I’ve not completed yet. I hope you enjoy!

“Red Rose”. Again using DMC threads. I’m sewing this for a friend. I temporarily forget who the designer of this pattern is, but I have many more to get started on and I adore the quality.

This “Spindleberry Fairy” is a project that I completely forgot about – it’s probably been hanging in my sewing cupboard for at least two years! This is another 18-count DMC project; I grew up being read the Flower Fairy poems and have loved them ever since!

This would be the finished version of the TARDIS pattern. It is utterly tiny; I cannot believe that I can sew text so small! It says “If this TARDIS is a rockin’ don’t come a knockin’”, but even macro wasn’t able to pick that up properly. Anyway, it’s completed and Minibreak Mummy could easily adapt this very small project into a bookmark!

More on my current main project – the Lanarte ballerina. This is a huge project and I don’t expect her to be recognisable any time soon, even though I plug away at her daily!

Last, but not least, Queen Nefertiti. She’s a DMC thread project on 16-count aida and I havent actually worked on her for a long time. I love the colours, but you will also notice much usage of The Metallic Thread Of Doom! It took me months just to get this far, but now that I’ve taken it out of my sewing cupboard and had a look I’m itching to get on with it again!

What’s everybody else up to?

  1. Thank you for another wonderful post. For some reason the others have disappeared from the linky list, do you want me to add them all separately so that they all show?

    • Go for it, and I’m glad you enjoyed this one :)

      • It’s brilliant inspiration, you’re really getting me into the mood to find some way of doing more of my beloved hobby!

      • You have no idea how much I’ve cursed over the metallic thread on Nefertiti – and yet I’m planning to get Cleopatra once I finish this one! I must be a masochist or something… lol.

No, in all honesty I’d not have much to do without cross-stitch. Even a bookworm and gamer like me can only take so much before getting fed up of living on the sofa! And I love the challenges that certain designs bring :)

  2. Metallic thread, I used it once and that was it, I’ve been avoiding it ever since! Although I did get my hands on a lovely blue and silver design for a tablecloth border a while ago… Hmmm ;)

I am just amazed at your talent!!

What beautiful work. I tried it one time and that was enough to show me I had no business doing cross-stitch! I do admire your dedication to it… and obviously, you are very talented!

    • I always use a wooden hoop to keep the fabric taut – otherwise the stitching just falls apart when you try to get the piece ready for mounting!

There’s so much unstarted work in my sewing cupboard… I’ve banned myself from buying any more kits this year. I don’t just have kits, but patterns I’ve downloaded from cross-stitch sites and patterns in magazines – and patterns that have been posted to me by friends! At least threads, aida and evenweave cost far less to buy than entire kits :)

  5. I do like that teeny tiny Tardis! Can you point me in the direction of the original chart? It would make a lovely key fob.

    • It came from Hancock’s House Of Happy. I think Dom just Googled “TARDIS cross-stitch” or something like that. If you get stuck I’ve just noticed their blog – hancockshouseofhappy.blogspot.com – so you might find the pattern there.

It really was a fun little piece to make; I’m looking forward to seeing your keyring! :)
