I don’t know who you are, where you’re from or why you would type in those particular search words, but it was a wonderful thing to read on my dashboard in “Top searches”.

I don’t know if you are a parent to a child with autism, a professional carer to children with autism or if you’re simply expressing your support for autism awareness, but after the whole 50 Cent debacle of yesterday my heart just about melted because your search for “I love autism kids” showed up on my dashboard.

We shall probably never meet, but I know that I would instantly like you. You love children like my son just the way they are, full of all that wonder and curiosity about the world around them. You love them even when they’re frustrated and angry.

You love children with autism. How could I possibly not like you?

The world needs more people like you. Somebody to care. Somebody to understand. Somebody to love our autistic children without wanting to change them.

Somebody who gets it.

Whoever you are, I want to thank you for being you. You are a wonderful human being and I wish I could find you just to shake your hand.

Thank you for loving children like my son. I wish I’d had somebody like you in my life when I was growing up.
