A Beautiful Little Miracle

D was out checking the Corkscrew Hazel to see if it was producing any nuts this year (we use them in various recipes).

There is a small cluster growing on the tree, but what struck him most was this gorgeous little lady Dragonfly:

In sunlight she would be either blue or green, judging by her markings. We know she’s female because of her forked tail.

Not all visitors to our garden are welcome, but this one certainly is!

We have been seeing a lot of these little jewels this summer. I have taken so many photos of various types. They are especially beautiful with the setting sun, roaming about the pastures.

    • Fascinating creatures aren’t they? Especially because you don’t know what colour they’ll be until they take to the air! I’ve seen sapphire blue, jade green and blood red… even some deep orange or purple over the years. So beautiful :)

  3. Nice one! I love dragon flies.
